Ambitious €1.5 Million Development
This ambitious project kicked-off the 3rd week in July (2004) with
the commencement of work on the Abbeylara Handball Club.
The All-Ireland winning club has a thriving membership from the locality
but until now has been operating in an outdoor one-wall facility.
The has restricted the playing season and has also confined members
to playing in just one-wall competitions. But work is now underway
on a brand new facility which will consist of a 40x20 court as well
as a 60x30 court and a large viewing area, as well as a meeting room,
kitchen, shower and changing facilities.
According to Anna O'Reilly of Abbeylara Handball Club, the new facility
will enable club members to enhance their skills and hopefully it
will attract new members to the club.
"It will increase their level of skill, thus inscreasing their
confidence and ultimately increase their chance of success at the
indoor games. This will eliminate the 'distinct disadvantage' that
for so long has demoralised and matginalised our players and seriously
limited their potential at the most popular 40x20 game and the traditional
60x30 four wall game," she explained. |
